"To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us, and make a broken tyrant a latter-day Arab hero. It would have taken us way beyond the imprimatur of international law bestowed by the resolutions of the Security Council, assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinnable urban guerilla war. It would only plunge that part of the world into even greater instability and destroy the credibility we were working so hard to reestablish."

Quite fitting that irony.
"Irony" is probably the most misused word in the English language...except, perhaps, for "love". People often say something is "ironic" when they actually mean coincidental. There's so many different types of irony..dramatic, socratic, etc. et al., that there's no wonder.
However, you did not misuse the word. That shit is ironic. "This shit is ironic, too."
I'm an english major. I should never misuse the word irony.
That selection of quotes is absolutely priceless. I hope they run on the leaderboard in hell so Tom Delay can read his words every moment of his miserable afterlife while he eats from garbage cans.
